Back Weekly Events for StrollerHikes (22)

Hello Mommies and Daddies!

Welcome to the StrollerHikes yahoo group, where you will get your
weekly newsletter beginning now!

It’s been a busy week for us – we celebrated our 5th annual Burn’s
Night Supper (Max’s second) last night, which means I cook up a
formal Scottish dinner for about 20 close friends. We were pleased
to see Max responding positively to the bagpiper, compared to last
year’s tears and repetitive signing of “loud”. It took us about 3
hours to wash all of the dishes, but now life is back to normal and
dad and Max are enjoying the Superbowl.

This next week we see an extra two events – Thursday late afternoon
hikes resume and our first monthly event in a while – a bike ride on
Canada Road – will occur on Sunday.

Monday, February 4th at 1:30 pm, we’ll hike along Stevens Creek
Trail. The path is entirely paved, so any strollers or baby transport
will work. We may linger afterwards to play in the playground at
Creekside Park. Meet at Creekside Park at 1:30 pm. For more
information or directions, see the Stevens Creek Trail Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrai
l.html). Dogs allowed! The path is well used by bicyclists, so please
leave little bikes (for toddlers) at home unless your little rider
can be careful about staying on one side of the path. Amy and James
will lead this hike.

Wednesday, February 6th at 11:30 am — NEW TIME! we’ll hike at
Huddart County Park, meet in the first main parking lot off of King’s
Mountain Road, just past the park entrance, and bring some cash to
pay for parking. Baby carriers or backpacks are best for this hike.
Kristen and little Lillian will lead this hike. Kristen’s cell # is
408-410-7200 if you’re running late. For more information or
directions, see Huddart Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/Huddart/Huddart.html).

Thursday, February 7th at 4 pm, we’ll hike at Baylands Park in
Sunnyvale. Any stroller will work! Meet next to the recycled water
test garden (take a left after entering the park). Parking is free
this time of year. For more information or directions, see the
Baylands Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/BaylandsPark/BaylandsPark.html).
Debbie and little Max will lead this hike.

Friday, February 8th at 10:30 am, we’ll hike at Rancho San Antonio.
Depending on the needs of the group, we’ll do an almost entirely
paved, flat path, or a hilly dirt path. Meet at the upper parking lot
where model airplanes are flown (just past the entrance, turn right,
then left into the first parking area uphill from the lower two). For
more information or directions, see the Rancho San Antonio Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/RanchoSanAntonio/ranchoSanAntonio.
html). Sorry, dogs not allowed. This hike is at least half shaded.
Sharisse and little Chase will lead this hike.

Monthly weekend FAMILY EVENT! Sunday, February 10th at 3:30 pm, we’ll
ride bikes at Canada Road. Provided that the weather is nice enough
for a bike ride, Canada Road is closed on the Sundays to auto
traffic, in order to promote the sport. Without traffic, this is the
perfect place to have a family bike ride. Meet at Canada Road’s road
closure at the junction of Woodside Road and Canada Road (Robert’s
and some other Woodside businesses are right there, if you need to
grab snacks). Debbie and little Max (perhaps with Daddy too) will
lead this event. For more information, see Chain Reaction Bike Shop’s
description of Canada Road
(http://www.chainreactionbicycles.com/canada_road.htm).

If anyone would like a stellar workout and would like to learn a new
low-impact sport, I invite you to join me (and sometimes Max, but
sometimes on my own) at Foothill College’s track at 8 am each 2nd and
4th Saturday of any month. The Golden Gate Race Walkers group meets
there and you can get some excellent coaching and positive feedback.
Walkers range from slow to unbelievably fast, so anyone is welcome!
When I bring Max, I bring the stroller so he can come on some laps,
but he’s also been left to wander sometimes – the track is fully
fenced in with gorgeous turf in the middle. Workouts usually last an
hour and there is voluntary donation of $1. Parking costs $2 (first
lot on the right as you enter Foothill Community College Campus).
