Begin from the parking lot off of Portola Road. Walk to the left-most trail, Spring Ridge Trail, and continue for half a mile. At the next intersection, take the left trail, and continue on Spring Ridge Trail for a less than a mile. When you reach another juncture, take the right trail, and continue for one-fifth of a mile. When you reach another intersection, take the left trail and continue until you reach the next juncture with Meadow Trail; then take the left trail. Continue for half a mile until you reach an intersection with Hamms Gulch Trail. Take the left trail and continue on Hamms Gulch Trail. Continue until the trail ends. Then take the left trail, Bay Area Ridge Trail. Continue on this trail until you reach an intersection with Spring Ridge Trail; take the right trail. Continue on Spring Ridge Trail for a mile until you reach an intersection; then take the left trail. After you reach another juncture–this time with Betsy Crow der Trail–take the left trail, Betsy Crowder Trail. Continue until you reach the parking lot.
If you’re lucky, you’ll see a variety of different animals on this hike, including banana slugs and newts. This loop will also take you the top of the hill, so you can enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valleys.
