Enjoy a fun and educational visit to this park, equipped with two reservoirs and historic mining sites.
- Attractions
- A very quiet and isolated park. Although the park is surrounded on one side by residential communities, there are no distractions on the trails.
- This park is known for its flowers in the spring, which include the California poppy and wildflowers.
- There are many historic sites, including old mining structures and tramway sites, and these sites usually have accompanying placards to provide historical context.
- The trails are very well-maintained.
- The Casa Grande and Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum, located a little outside the park, provides interesting exhibits and guided tours (although these tours have to be reserved beforehand).
- There is plenty of wildlife, ranging from hawks to bobcats to deer.
- Great views of the Santa Cruz Mountain Range.
- There are two reservoirs that offer splendid views and activities, like fishing. However, remember to not eat the fish!
- Limitations
- Stay on the trails to avoid ticks, poison oak, rattlesnakes and old mine shafts!
- No smoking
- If you go fishing, do not eat the fish because they contain high levels of mercury.
- Do not climb on old mining structures as they may crumble.
- Pets must be on a leash.
- Access
Most trails are wheelchair-accessible although some, like English Camp Trail, may be a bit steep and others, like Randol Trail, are too narrow. Although the parking areas are not marked with spots, they are very large and provide enough room for wheelchair accessiblity.
