We had a stellar turnout to our annual Turkey Trek at Fremont Older (Cupertino/Saratoga) on Thanksgiving morning. It was great to see some old friends and make new ones, as we tackled the grassy hills to rise above Silicon Valley at Hunter’s Point. The smog prevented a clear view to Oakland and San Francisco, but all views nearby were great: kids gnoshing on apples, sketching pictures in the dirt, and hamming it up with each other.
It was also a wonderful occasion to send well wishes to Melanie (pictured at right if you view the full post) and her family, as they prepare to move to Germany. Melanie is well known for leading our Friday morning Seabright Beach Hikes in Santa Cruz, and you may also know her for leading Stroller Hikes backpack camping trips. We wish them the best on their travels! Perhaps we will have to arrange for a Stroller Hike in the Alps with her family and the lovely Julie and Fred (and their little ones), who frequented our backpacking trips a couple years ago and headed back to France.
Hikes are becoming more sparse as we approach the end of the calendar year. Andrea’s Wednesday Ed Levin treks will continue, as well as the Seabright Beach Hikes in Santa Cruz – Mika and Carolyn have graciously volunteered to keep these going. Glenna has returned to work (best of luck, Glenna!), so her Monday hikes have stopped. Consider leading hikes if you’d like to see more – we welcome new leaders with open arms and can supply you with Stroller Hikes apparel, a first aid kit, and more to get you going. We are also looking for people who would like to serve as Stroller Hikes managers; Debbie is stepping down as President in the summer of 2014. If you’re interested, please e-mail Debbie at firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information about this leadership opportunity, see http://strollerhikes.com/old-is-new-again/.
Don’t forget to join us next weekend on Saturday, December 7th for our 4th Annual Stroller Hikes Craft Party. Raley’s / Nob Hill Foods, DoTerra Essential Oils, BJ’s Brewpub, and Sports Basement are sponsoring us at this FREE event where we welcome Stroller Hikes families and the general public to make crafts from the heart and enjoy time with family and friends. Please RSVP for the event, so enough supplies are brought. You are welcome to donate during the event to Stroller Hikes; Stroller Hikes funds finance large community events like this one. For more information, see http://strollerhikes.com/holiday-craft-party-coming/.
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
– Debbie (Founder and President), Max (7), Holy (3), and Andrew
